  1. I am out of touch. I simply don’t recall uniformed police on buses. In New York, I recognized the subway police presence at the various stations … but, I don’t recall them riding the trains. I took RTD (rapid transit district) bus to & from school for much of my childhood. Maybe we were in a less violent time back then … but, the idea of a uniformed sheriff on the bus would have been silly back in the day.

That being said … I see no reason for the Detroit city council to turn down offer of $2m worth of support from Wayne County sheriff … especially when there appears to be a demonstrated need. It is a shame that a strike is needed to bring this type of issue to a head.

Just when you think that Detroit’s city government has turned a corner … something like this reminds us of how far we still need to go.

  2. Hey Villager.

Things have definitely changed considerably since our childhoods. To say it’s more violent is a considerable understatement unfortunately. It’s just getting out of control. THe desperation out here is on high boil.
